Dance Place opened its season over the weekend with a sampling
of works from its homegrown crop of companies in residence. "Taste
of Dance Place" included works by each of the half-dozen groups
based at the Brookland studio and performance space: Images of
Cultural Artistry Inc., Deborah Riley Dance Projects, Quiescence,
Lesa McLaughlin & Dancers, Coyaba Dance Theatre (formerly Nanfoule
Folkloric Dance Ensemble) and Carla & Company, headed by Dance Place
director Carla Perlo. All the company directors teach at Dance
Place, but this was the first time all six groups had ever shared
the same bill.
