Check fraud has become a problem of epidemic proportions.
Community Banker magazine reports that the Office of the
Comptroller of the Currency estimates that check fraud costs banks,
consumers and businesses between $12 billion and $15 billion a year.
The FBI estimates that about 500 million checks are counterfeited
annually.
The news that Topeka Unified School District 501 was the victim of
an international check fraud scheme to the tune of $554,000 over a
two-year period should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. If your
