Article: 4-H'ers earn premiums for top livestock

More than $34,230 in premium money was donated by 82 individuals
and businesses to youth at the 2004 Shawnee County Fair livestock
auction. 4-H and FFA youth from Shawnee County sold 128 beef, sheep,
swine, meat goats and poultry at the auction on Aug. 1 at the Kansas
Expocentre.
Youth use the money to set up college funds and pay off their
production expenses. The donations to the 4-H'ers make it possible
for the youth to buy animals, feed and supplies to raise an animal
project.
Premiums paid for champions:
Grand Champion sheep of Jacob Gleason was bought by Caldwell's
Inc., Performance Tire & Wheel, Petro Deli, Sunflower Cattle Co. and
Meier's Ready Mix for $400.
