Article: Watch for a close Senate race in South Dakota

Jane and I drove to the epicenter of congressional politics Sunday, and returned Tuesday. I participated in a day and a half Congress to Campus program with gentleman and Congressman Bill Barrett, who represented the huge western Nebraska district from 1991 to 2001.

It is red-hot political time in South Dakota with a toss-up U.S. Senate race and an equally close race for the state's only House seat.

South Dakota has had many close races, but I doubt if they have ever had one considered more nationally important than the present Tom Daschle-John Thune U.S. Senate race. No one seems very certain who is ahead, and it may be sometime Wednesday, Nov. 3, before anyone has a very good idea.
