Pam Luthi makes all of her family's meals, including California Cheeseburger Pie and Easy Dinner Rolls, from scratch. Luthi says planning ahead is the key to cooking this way.

SHORTCUTS

Cooking from scratch doesn't have to be difficult, said Topekan Pam Luthi. She offered the following tips to save time:

- Plan your meals a week at a time.

- Know in the morning what you will serve for dinner.

- Prepare meat on days off or in the morning before work.

- Have a list of easy-to-prepare family favorites.
