Rafael Palmeiro approached the plate with the game tied, the
bases loaded and two out in the eighth inning tonight awash in
applause left over from his record-setting home run in the fifth.
And when Palmeiro connected with the first pitch he was thrown, the
intensity of the roar that followed matched the size of his grand
slam, which gave the Baltimore Orioles a 7-3 victory over the Kansas
City Royals at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
"It was all just a blur to me," said Palmeiro, whose five RBI
were a season high. With his 30th and 31st home runs, he became the
first Oriole to hit at least 30 in three consecutive seasons. On the
