It has been described as having the taste of the cave-man days, a deep atmosphere and competitive prices. The Brick Oven, 3030 S.W. Wanamaker Road, flings open its doors on the Fourth of July.

"We wanted to help people who drive to Lawrence and Kansas City to have dinner, so they don't have to do that and can come to our restaurant," said Doug Bassett, who is an agent for Prudential CRES Commercial Real Estate and responsible for setting up the Brick Oven. "Steaks are the highlights of the menu."

Barbecue, ribs, Kobe beef and fresh seafood are the other mainstays of the kitchen. All are cooked in the signature brick ovens that christened the restaurant. ...
