The House renewed the Legislature's annual debate on abortion Thursday, advancing a bill that would require physicians to get a parent's permission before ending the pregnancy of a girl less than 18. House members gave the bill first-round approval on a 67-35 vote. Passage on a final vote -- which is expected given past House votes on abortion issues -- would send the bill to the Senate. State law requires a physician to notify a parent or guardian of plans to end a minor's pregnancy. A girl can petition a district court judge to avoid the notification requirement.
