Two weeks after her children were allegedly poisoned with
antifreeze, it is unclear whether the girls' mother is even aware of
the tragedy.
Chelsie, 8, and Ashley Ayres, 9, remain in a Wichita hospital but
have been upgraded from fair to good condition. The girls were
admitted to the hospital Feb. 24 and initially were diagnosed with
encephalitis, a rare, contagious virus. But doctors became
suspicious and upon further testing found antifreeze in their system.
Their father, Donald Ayres, 29, of Culver, was arrested Friday in
connection with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two
counts of child abuse and two counts of child endangerment. Defense
