KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Johnny Damon raised his average 40 points Saturday with two doubles.

The starting point, however, was not good. Damon, who is batting in the third slot for the Kansas City Royals, began the afternoon with a .118 average and ended it hitting all of .158.

"My average is horrible," Damon said after a 6-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. "I haven't had any bloop hits to fall. All my hits have been pretty sold. There's no excuses on my part.
