KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Johnny Damon raised his average 40 points
Saturday with two doubles.
The starting point, however, was not good. Damon, who is batting
in the third slot for the Kansas City Royals, began the afternoon
with a .118 average and ended it hitting all of .158.
"My average is horrible," Damon said after a 6-5 loss to the
Chicago White Sox. "I haven't had any bloop hits to fall. All my
hits have been pretty sold. There's no excuses on my part. I'm
hitting .100-whatever for a reason."
Damon has just six hits in 38 at-bats. Before the two doubles off
White Sox starter Jaime Navarro, Damon had only one extra-base hit in
the first nine games.
