Left field, No. 3 slot fine with Damon
ESKEW
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Johnny Damon is a man on the move.
He has not changed addresses, just taken about 100 steps to his
right since last season. Instead of starting in center field, as he
did in 127 games last year for the Kansas City Royals, Damon is now
stationed in left.
Damon no longer bats leadoff, either, as he did in 145 games last
season. Now, he is the Royals' No. 3 hitter.
Rookie Carlos Beltran, 21, has replaced Damon in center and at the
top of the batting order.
The Royals still have big plans for Damon, however. After all, he
played in his 500th major league game Monday -- only pitchers Jeff
Montgomery, Kevin Appier and Hipolito ...
