A Palestinian man and a Jordanian man have been indicted by a
federal grand jury here for allegedly plotting last month to explode
a pipe bomb in a New York City subway. Federal officials said today
that an "intensive, worldwide" investigation so far has found no
connection between the two and any known terrorist group.
Gazi Ibrahim Abu Mezer, 23, and Lafi Khalil, 22, were arrested
on July 31 when police, having been tipped off to the bomb plot,
burst into their Brooklyn apartment. The men were shot several times
during the police action, one as he attempted to detonate a fully
rigged pipe bomb and the other when he attempted to "disarm the
