More than 300 music therapists, students and health-care professionals are in Topeka to celebrate the 50th anniversary of music therapy as an organized profession.

The American Music Therapy Association's Midwestern region conference, "Welcome Home: Celebrating 50 Years of Music Therapy," began Thursday and continues through today at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, which was one of the first clinical sites where students began formal music therapy training in the 1940s and '50s.
