OSKALOOSA --- After this year, seniors at Oskaloosa High School
will no longer be required to complete a senior project to graduate.
In Monday night's 3-4 vote, the Oskaloosa Board of Education
decided to drop the projects as a graduation requirement and to send
the issue to committee for further study.
Seniors at Oskaloosa have been completing senior projects since
1996. The projects involve four components --- writing a research
paper, obtaining a mentor, a hands-on project or activity that
required a minimum of 15 hours outside of school work and reporting
their results --- all on a topic of the student's choice.
