Jim Thorpe was born in Prague, Okla., in 1888; was a two-time All-
American football player at Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pa.;
a legendary Olympic champion; a major league baseball player; an all-
star pro football player with the Canton, Ohio, Bulldogs when the NFL
was in its infancy; he lived for a time in California, and late in
life he semi-retired to Shawnee, Okla., near his birthplace.
Yet, incredibly, he is buried in Mauch Chunk, Pa., a place he
never saw, and probably never heard of. Why his remains are there,
and the effort to return them to his native Oklahoma, is the second-
biggest controversy of his history.
