Some of the best steak I have ever eaten was at the Grand Central
Hotel and Grill in Cottonwood Falls in Chase County in the heart of
Flint Hills ranch country.
It was no accident the steak was excellent. In winning the 2001
Beef Backer Award sponsored by the Kansas Beef Council, Grand Central
becomes the state's best beef restaurant for a year.
The KBC promotes beef, and the award is financed by the beef
checkoff fund. Most of the money goes to the national level to pay
for promotion and research, but the KBC is able to keep some at home.
Now, I know that some die-hards against the checkoff like to say
there is little or no connection between a rancher raising calves or
even stockers and ...
