Article: Churches to observe New Year's Eve with watch night

New Year's Eve conjures up all kinds of images, many having to do with parties and the need for designated drivers.

Many churches across Topeka will have far more sober "watch night" services Monday night, designed to close out one year and bring in a new one.

One of the larger such services is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Monday at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, 1162 S.W. Lincoln.

The African-American Ministers Alliance will sponsor the service, which will include special music, a New Year's Eve message and communion.

Speakers will include the Rev. John A. DeVeaux Jr., the Rev. Ben Scott and the Rev. Delmar White.
