John Wayne died in 1979 at the age of 72, but he remains one of the most beloved iconic movie figures ever.

Wayne made more than 150 movies, and in a testament to his popularity, most of them are on DVD -- this at a time when thousands of vintage films remain locked in studio vaults, and most will probably never see the light of home video.

Not that that stops the ever-recycling home-video industry from feeding on itself.

Some Wayne movies have been released this week for the first time -- but the big-ticket items are three reissued titles packed with new bonus features: "Rio Bravo," "The Cowboys" and the film that finally won Wayne his Oscar, "True Grit."
