Clint Barmes tries not to think about how his life -- and
baseball career -- took a downward spiral in the past two years. He
doesn't toss and turn at night. He doesn't worry constantly about
what might have been.
Barmes was the starter for the Colorado Rockies in 2005 and a
front-runner for National League Rookie of the Year honors. A broken
collarbone, suffered while carrying deer meat up apartment stairs,
derailed his hot streak.
Barmes has yet to recover.
He hit .220 with the Rockies in 2006 and lost his job in spring
training to rookie Troy Tulowitzki. Now he's the starting shortstop
for the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
