PHILADELPHIA -- Statheads might cringe at Barry Zito's decreasing
strikeout rate. They might not like his walk totals, and they'll
gleefully point out the rising batting average of opposing hitters.
They also hate descriptions like "intangibles" or "big-game
mentality."
But how else to describe what Zito has done for the Giants on
this road trip?
For the second time in six days, Zito had to follow a tough loss
on a walk-off home run.
And for the second time, he pitched the Giants to a much-needed
victory -- this time holding the Philadelphia Phillies to an
unearned run over six innings of an 8-1 win at Citizens Bank Park.
