The minute Lisa Herrmann learned that a Ronald McDonald House
was being built on the grounds of Inova Fairfax Hospital, she knew
what she had to do.
"I said, `Dad, we have to get involved with this,' " the
Annandale middle-school student recalled.
Not that her family needed a push. The Herrmanns know
first-hand the comfort and support that a Ronald McDonald House
offers the parents of a seriously ill child. When Lisa was 4, she
needed a bone marrow transplant to correct a rare blood condition.
The procedure was to be done at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,
and Lisa would have to stay close to the hospital for more than
three months.
