BANKING AND FINANCE
Collins Stewart says it prefers Allied Irish Bank to its main
rival, Bank of Ireland, although it did not give AIB an upgrade
after its trading statement this week. The broker says AIB is
performing well in Poland and improving in the US. The Irish housing
market has slowed, however, dampening mortgage sales.
BUILDING AND PROPERTY
Houses in the UK could cost ten times the average salary by 2026,
a new think-tank called the National Housing and Planning Advice
Unit has warned.
"Demand for housing is growing and unless action is taken
pressure on the market will only get worse," said Professor Stephen
Nickell. At the moment houses cost seven times salary on average.
