Florida Panthers center Steve Washburn wasn't even sure he'd
make it to this afternoon's game against the Washington Capitals
after a motorcycle parade of volunteers collecting Christmas toys
shut down several area highways. But once Washburn finally inched
his way through a series of detours, arriving at Miami Arena just a
half-hour before the opening faceoff, he put his pent-up road rage
to good use by scoring the winning goal with just 2 minutes 43
seconds remaining.
It was the second goal of the afternoon for the 22-year-old
rookie, who caused Washington problems throughout Florida's 5-4
