Dear Heloise: OK, I made your Mock Apple Pie. My hubby asked me,
"What kind is it?" and I told him to sample it. He said it tasted
like apple pie! That's all I needed to know. Thanks a million for

which has been a Heloise reader favorite since 1959! It is a hoot to

give it a try. To make one pie, you will need:
Pastry for a double-crusted 9-inch pie
2 cups water
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
