For his first solo album in four years, former Cars frontman
Ric Ocasek has enlisted some relative youngsters. The
singer-guitarist's "Troublizing" features old Cars mate Greg Hawkes
on keyboards, but also Bad Religion guitarist Brian Baker, Hole
bassist Melissa der Maur, Smashing Pumpkins touring drummer Matt
Walker and the great Pumpkin himself, Billy Corgan. The latter even
co-produced four of the songs, one of which he also wrote.
Corgan's "Asia Minor" offers a litany of misery ("I think my
body really hates me/ I think I'm just a walking disease") that's
quite unlike the cool, cryptic observations that have long
characterized Ocasek's songs. The ...
