Usually, it's crazy to evaluate the success of a long-term
contract after the first half of Season 1, but with left-hander
Barry Zito, it seems safe enough to pronounce his seven-year, $126
million deal a bad move by the Giants.
With an aging roster and slugger Barry Bonds' future murky, Zito
needed to deliver quickly to make the Giants look good.
He's running out of time to save his season. Zito makes his first
start of the second half Tuesday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
He enters with a disappointing 6-9 record and 4.90 ERA.
Leading up to the All-Star break, Zito went 0-4 in his last six
starts -- all Giants losses. He hasn't earned a victory since
