THE Northern line could be split into two separate routes to
improve the Underground's worst line.
Mayor Ken Livingstone wants to stop trains crossing between the
line's two branches at Camden Town to increase frequency.
Tube bosses believe this is the only way to improve the line,
which is the busiest on the network with around 650,000 passenger
journeys each weekday. At present, trains originating from the
northern end of the line, from either Edgware or High Barnet/Mill
Hill East, can run via Charing Cross or Bank.
But allowing the services to "cross" regularly causes jams. Under
the proposal, all Edgware trains would run via Charing Cross and all
High Barnet/Mill Hill East trains would ...
