Rising corn prices and an uptick in the state's agricultural economy may find farmers picking up a bigger share of the state's property tax burden and urban homeowners a bit less.

Property assessments on farmland are up this year.

All tax bills hinge on local tax rates, levies and tax bases. But with higher property values, some Wisconsin farmers already are bracing for heftier tax bills than they've seen in years.

"We know our taxes are going up," said Bob Bartholomew, president of the Waukesha County Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation whose family raises corn, beans and some other cash crops on about 900 acres in the Big Bend area.
