For a gospel song, "Not Natural" is kicking up a very earthly
ruckus. The song, from duo Angie and Debbie Winans, siblings of the
Grammy Award-winning Winans family of gospel singers, uses
contemporary R&B and rap tracks to denounce homosexuality, violence
and fornication, and it has gay rights advocates crying foul.
According to Debbie Winans, 26, inspiration for the song came
to her and Angie, 29, last spring after the much-hyped "Ellen"
coming-out episode on ABC. "She came out and it was just important
for the truth of the matter to have the same publicity. We decided
to say what God says about it -- that {homosexuality} is not
natural."
