1935-2007
Dr. James S. Wolf created the national organ transplant system,
which has helped save or extend the lives of hundreds of thousands
of patients, including Dr. Wolf himself.
Dr. Wolf received a lifesaving heart transplant operation in
2001, after waiting for months on the list that he had created for
allocating the precious organs.
"He wanted to be part of the system he created," said his
daughter, Anneliza Itkor.
"That was why he waited 40 weeks for his heart. They went in, and
afterwards the heart surgeon said there was practically nothing left
of the heart muscle. He got it in the nick of time."
