Article: Hay fever season likely to peak this week; Pollen count not bad, but best to avoid ragweeds

With hay fever season expected to peak this week, the latest rooftop measurements show the local pollen count isn't too bad.

But mold counts are high.

Friday's pollen count from ragweeds and other weeds was a "moderate" 10 grains per cubic meter of air. However, the mold count was 13,439 spores per cubic meter, which is considered high.

Pollen grains and mold spores can trigger sneezing, runny noses and swollen, itchy, watery eyes.

Nearly 36 million Americans suffer seasonal allergic rhinitis, better known as hay fever. The season begins around Aug. 15 and lasts until the first frost.
