PLANS to allow British scientists to create human-animal embryos
for medical research are set to be given the go-ahead tomorrow by
the Government's fertility watchdog.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority's longawaited
public consultation on the research published ahead of the decision
claims the majority of people are "at ease" with scientists creating
the hybrid embryos.
Researchers want to merge human cells with animal eggs in the
hope they will be able to extract stem cells from the resulting
embryos. Two research groups, based at King's College London and
Newcastle University, have applied to the HFEA to carry out the
procedure but their applications have been on hold since ...
