Madison - Appalachian State University became America's Team last
weekend.
Football fans all across the country, particularly those on Big
Ten Conference campuses, seemed to adopt the small university
located in Boone, N.C., with an undergraduate enrollment of 13,447.
Appalachian State alumni were overwhelmed by a mix of elation and
disbelief.
That group of alumni included Wisconsin assistant coaches John
Settle and Randall McCray, who played at and received degrees from
the Division I-AA school (now Football Championship Subdivision).
"It's the biggest (upset) I've ever seen or heard of," Settle,
UW's running backs coach, said of his alma mater's 34-32 victory
