To try to bolster sagging performances by U.S. distance
runners, USA Track & Field Executive Director Craig Masback wants to
establish a program that would train, nurture, test and finance
aspiring Olympic-caliber athletes.
"We need to create a coherent program that will give our
athletes more and better opportunities to compete on the roads and
on the track," Masback said. "I'd like to see a program with
substantial funding that would include training camps complete with
room and board where athletes can work together over the long term."
Masback, who lives in Georgetown, took the helm of financially
beleaguered USA Track & Field July 16 after Olan Cassell was ousted
