Virginia Tech and Miami entertained a capacity crowd of 53,177
at Lane Stadium tonight with one spectacular offensive play after
another. But the crowd didn't have to be reminded that defense
usually wins football games. A combination of defense and special
teams gave the 20th-ranked Hokies a 27-25 victory over the
Hurricanes.
With the score 27-25 and 1 minute 48 seconds to play, Virginia
Tech's Pierson Prioleau intercepted what would have been a
game-tying two-point conversion pass. The Hokies then benefited from
a penalty that nullified an apparently successful onside kick and
let them hold on to their lead for their third consecutive victory
over the previously untouchable ...
