OAKLAND -- City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente has taken
aim at the Oakland Police Department, alleging that investigators
trumped up sexual assault allegations against his son, Ignacio De La
Fuente Jr., as De La Fuente Sr. sought election as Oakland's mayor.
A Web site, http://www.delafuenteconspiracy.com, reportedly
launched by De La Fuente Sr. and his wife, accuses the department of
falsifying and altering police reports and suggests allegations
against De La Fuente Jr. were exaggerated because the council
president had fallen out of favor with "more than a handful of
Oakland's high ranking police officers."
