PHILADELPHIA -- Take more pitches. Draw more walks. Hit more
grounders.
For years, Jimmy Rollins heard the same criticism from people who
said he's not a prototypical leadoff hitter. Try dissing J-Roll now.
The three-time All-Star shortstop is having an MVP-caliber season
in Philadelphia, helping the injury-depleted Phillies stay in the
playoff race.
Rollins, an Encinal graduate, was hitting .298 with 28 homers and
88 RBIs. He had 36 doubles, 18 triples, 36 steals and 129 runs
scored. No player in major league history has ever had 40 doubles,
20 triples, 30 homers and 30 steals in one season. Rollins has a
legitimate chance to accomplish that remarkable feat, and he could
