The Goods: Software designed expressly for girls is making its
mark in the male-dominated computer games market. In a world of Doom
and Claw and Duke Nukem 3D, now there are Secret Paths in the Forest
and Super Jewelry Kit.
The Big Picture: "It's really in the last year that the number of
software offerings for girls has opened up," says Nathan Morton, CEO
of Computer City, which last month established a separate girls'
software section in its stores. Computer games are typically filled
with violence and derring-do. The girls' games, though, stress
"collaboration, creativity . . . and communication," says Beverly
