Increased vacation travel gave Oklahoma's two largest commercial
airports sizeable passenger traffic increases last month.
"It was a really big year for people with vacations," said Lynn
Scott, the owner of Sunbelt Travel in Tulsa. "August usually isn't
the hugest month; it's usually July. We seemed to have a lot of
people go in August this year where normally it's not one of our
busiest months."
The number of August boarding passengers on Will Rogers World
Airport commercial flights rose 8.29 percent from a year ago to
163,370. Perhaps signifying vacation's end, the Oklahoma City
airport logged 10,000 more arriving passengers - that 173,767 total
topped year-ago results by 7.45 percent.
