Thanks to the availability of BBC America on satellite and
digital cable, TV viewers have an easy way to see the difference
between the American and British versions of "reality."
Tele-chef Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" airs in its
original form on BBC America (at 4 p.m. weekdays, with two episodes
at 7 p.m. Thursdays) and in a new version on Fox (the second episode
airs at 8 tonight on Channel 6).
Ramsay is the same character in both: foul-mouthed and cocksure.
And the basic idea is the same for both: a struggling restaurant
seeks the master to help turn them 'round. There's a method to his
meanness, since he has a track record of creating successful
eateries.
