Jobs grew at a healthier rate in the Milwaukee area last month
than they did nationally, but the area's unemployment rate kept
climbing, according to preliminary data reported Wednesday by the
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The four-county Milwaukee area added 12,500 jobs between August
2006 and last month, a 1.5% increase, exceeding the 1.2% addition
during the same period nationally.
In fact, the Milwaukee area outperformed the nation in six of the
top 10 industry sectors, said Bret Mayborne, economic research
director for the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce.
