Both starters in Thursday's Diamondbacks-Pirates game were
prolific college sluggers who became full-time pitchers in the pros.
Only one has made the transition thus far.
Micah Owings out-pitched John Van Benschoten, and out-hit
everybody else as the uninspired Pirates lost to the Diamondbacks, 8-
0, at a cavernous, nearly empty PNC Park.
It was the 10th loss in the past 12 games for the Pirates, who
saw a modest two-game winning streak snapped.
The Pirates conclude their 2007 season with a three-game series
against the St. Louis Cardinals beginning tonight at PNC Park.
"Obviously, not a good day," manager Jim Tracy said. "We didn't
pitch well. We didn't play well."
