YORKSHIRE hotel group Golden Tulip has been bought by Premier Inns owner Whitbread for Pounds 44m.

The Ripon-based business, which was founded in 2002 and manages five three-star Tulip Inn hotels and one four-star Golden Tulip property, was sold by private equity group Graphite Capital.

The group operates the Leeds/Castleford Tulip Inn and has plans to open a Golden Tulip in York and Tulip Inns in Sheffield and Doncaster as part of a Pounds 40m expansion across the UK to add nine more hotels in the next two years.
