The moving story of a Devon farm horse swept up in the tragedy of
the First World War takes to the stage at the National Theatre this
autumn. War Horse is adapted from the children's novel by Michael
Morpurgo, who set its opening chapters in Iddesleigh, the Devon
village where he lives.
By coincidence, the actor playing lead character Albert Narracott
is also from Devon. Luke Treadaway, 22 and virtually fresh out of
drama school, grew up in Sandford near Crediton.
The story tells of Joey, Albert's beloved horse, who is sold to
the Army by his father at the outbreak of war. Joey will see action
on both British and German sides, witnessing the carnage of war,
before being reunited with Albert.
