KILLEEN, Texas -- Only one Louisiana National Guard member had
not returned to Fort Hood by yesterday, while eight of the dozens of
returning guardsmen were taken into custody as they stepped off a
bus, officials said.
The 67 guardsmen, 40 of whom had been declared absent without
leave, were from the 256th Infantry Brigade of the Louisiana National
Guard, which serves as a "roundout" unit for the Army's 5th Infantry
Division.
The other 27 had passes that had expired, but whether they will
be charged with being AWOL was still undecided, said Dan Nance, a
spokesman for the division.
