Article: U.N. Indicts Bosnian Serb General; Djukic Accused of Key Role in Shelling of Sarajevo Civilian Targets

The United Nations tribunal for the former Yugoslavia indicted a senior Bosnian Serb officer for war crimes today, accusing him of playing a critical role behind the intensive shelling of civilian targets in the Bosnian capital.

The International War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague charged Gen. Djordje Djukic, a chief deputy to Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic, with supervising artillery barrages from 1992 to 1995 in which more than 10,000 people are believed to have died. He is also believed to have been responsible for managing logistics and the flow of supplies from Serbia to Serb forces inside Bosnia.
