Article: School Committee meets Flynn's demands on cuts

After months of feuding with Mayor Flynn, the Boston School Committee moved last night to eliminate its budget deficit by voting $1.9 million in spending cuts and agreeing to most other conditions of a Flynn offer to provide additional funding to the schools.

The Flynn administration had offered to allocate an extra $4 million to the school system if the committee reduced its deficit by an equal amount. Last night's reductions combined with $2.1 million in cuts the committee adopted two weeks ago totals the $4 million sought by Flynn.

The compromise leaves the anticipated school spending for the year at $394 million.
