Article: Averill father, sons were winners on ice

WAYLAND -- He coached his three sons in Little League and youth hockey, and followed their hockey careers closely as each matriculated at Northeastern University. So, it was with some sense of nostalgia and pride that Bob Averill watched his youngest son, NU senior defenseman Will Averill, play in the Beanpot Tournament at Boston Garden for the final time this month.

The Averill-Northeastern hockey connection began in the early 1950s when Bob (also known as Bo) -- just out of the Marine Corps after serving in Korea and then at Parris Island as a drill instructor -- earned a starting spot on the varsity his junior year.
