CBS Sports basketball analyst Billy Packer unintentionally
added interest to the second half of Georgetown's 106-68 blowout of
Villanova yesterday when he referred to Georgetown guard Allen
Iverson as "a tough monkey" during the nationally televised game.
Viewers called USAir Arena to complain about the remark about
Iverson, who is black, and a Georgetown spokesman relayed the
complaints to Georgetown Coach John Thompson after the game. Packer
apologized at the end of the broadcast, and after the game met with
Thompson. Both they and Iverson said there were no racial
connotations to the statement.
