Article: Restaurateurs take on American Express

American Express Co. may yield to mounting pressure from a 250-strong coalition of Boston restaurateurs fed up with the financial service giant taking bites out of their shrinking profits.

At a meeting in Boston today, American Express officials will talk with five restaurant owners who are part of a grassroots group threatening to drop the card unless the company cuts its rates.

"American Express is a great product and we want their card, but we're in a recession and we're getting killed with their {service} charges," said Steve DiFillippo, owner of Davio's, a popular Italian restaurant.
